Hope House, a local BBB Accredited Charity, is taking unique steps to diversify its funding sources in a down economy. Hope House provides essential services to women and families facing domestic violence and much of its funding has traditionally come from state grants. States, unfortunately, are feeling the brunt of this economic downturn with a decrease in tax revenues and funding for essential services - like help for victims of domestic violence - is being cut by many states. Hope House has developed new revenue sources through innovative business partnerships. Read about those here.
Our nonprofit sector, being the creative and innovative 'third sector' it has always been, is finding ways of using this downturn to grow stronger. If you know of other ways that charities are succeeding in our economy, I would love to hear about them in the comments section.
