I found this note from The Chronicle of Philanthropy on the who, what, and why of charitable giving not very suprising.  A study conducted by Indiana University's Center on Philanthropy*  and paid for by the Bank of America Merrill Lynch Foundation found that women were the driving force or equal partner in 75% of giving choices by wealthy American couples.  This seems really obvious to me.

Jamaican Lottery Scam - This is one of the scarier scams. They actually want to meet up with the victims. They want their elderly targets to bring money with them to a meeting spot. Where should you send your donations to help Japan?  My radical idea:  nowhere.  At least, not yet.  And I urge caution in giving to organizations that are fundraising on behalf of relief efforts. The situation in Japan is unfortunately still unfolding.  The New York Times reports that the Japanese Army is handling the recovery from the earthquake and tsunami well and in an efficient manner.
